The city of Hannover owes this jewel of baroque garden architecture to an extraordinary woman: Electress Sophia of the Palatinate. Inspired by the Sun King, Louis XIV, she had the Great Garden laid out in the French style at the end of the 17th century; and it became her life’s work.
