Hallmarks

Salt: ample evidence of the commercial wealth accrued from the white gold is found in every corner of this former Hanseatic city: from the salt works in the Salt Museum to the SaLü salt spa.

Tour

Famed in poem and song: the Lüneburger Heide. Give yourself plenty of time on your journey to Celle to discover the quiet and peaceful corners of the tranquil and picturesque Heide landscape. Recommendation: stop off at Amelinghausen, home of the famous Heather Blossom Festival, numerous historical buildings, and a 200 km network of cycle paths and hiking trails. The megolithic burial sites in Oldendorf and Sodertorf stand witness to the ancient roots of human settlement in the region.

Another great place to stop is Wilsede (near Bispingen) where a walk through the classic heather-covered Heide landscape takes you to the highest point in the North German Plain – Wilseder Berg lying at 169.2 m above sea level. Views to Hamburg or back to Lüneburg under suitable weather conditions.
