Many cosy restaurants in the Old Town serve international cuisine as well as local delicacies. Hameln Theatre hosts around 80 theatre companies and ensembles from around the world putting on around 200 performances each season.

The world famous Pied Piper and the little furry creatures he drove out of the town are on display everywhere in Hameln. From flambéed rats tail to bread rats, and a whole variety of sweets in ratty shapes, Hameln has rats in every shape or form for every taste.

Tour

The Steinhuder Meer lake is a popular destination for outings from Hannover. Traditional “Auswanderer” boats ferry passengers from Steinhude to the fortified island of Wilhelmstein in the middle of the lake. On returning to shore and enjoying a leisurely lunch, take time out to stroll through the picturesque fishing village and visit an eel smoke house. Continue the tour through the hilly countryside of the Deister and beyond to Hameln, the town of the Pied Piper.

Theater for Niedersachen

One of the multifaceted theatres in Niedersachsen. In the Tradtion of the Hildesheim municipal theatre offers different sectors, with opera, musical, chamber music and classical and modern drama as well as youth and children’s performances.

Hallmarks

According to the legend, Hildesheim’s origins are closely linked to the 1000-year-old rose bush growing on the apse of the cathedral. The city’s rose emblem adorns in a variety of guises the tasteful souvenirs on sale in the Tourist Information Office.
