Hallmarks
The Harz mountains and Goslar stand for mining. The history of the Rammelsberg Mine is played out every day by the moving figures and carillon on the Market Square at 9:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00. Legend has it that the horse ridden by Sir Ramm pawed the ground to expose the first silver vein.
Tour
First make a short detour to Wernigerode and ride the famous Harz narrow-gauge railway to the summit of the Brocken mountain – the highest point in Northern Germany at 1142 metres, and wreathed in myth and legend. On arriving back in Wernigerode, don’t miss strolling through the colourful streets with their brightly painted half-timbered houses. Continue your tour to Göttingen in the late afternoon.
