FAGUS-WORK and castle Marienburg
Experience two top highlights on a group bus trip: neo-gothic-style Marienburg Castel and the Fagus Factory in Alfeld, declared a UNESCO World Culrutal Heritage site in 2011. From Hildesheim via Betheln to Brüggen with its baroque palace grounds, the route leads to Alfeld. After a look at the market square and the Lateinschule (Latin School), participants visit the "Faguswerk", the first industrial building of the modern age, designed by Walter Gropius an 1911 as a shoe last factory. The tour is continued to neo-gothic Marienburg Castle, visible from afar on top of the Schulenburger Berg above the Leine valley near Nordstemmen. Georg V. of Hannover had the palace built for his wife, Queen Marie, in the 19th century. During a tour of the castle, there are interesting facts to be revealed about the history of the house of Guelph and its connections to the English royal family. The entire outing takes about 6 hours.
